What Paul Saw Hidden in the Messiah

Predestination or Free Will? Which is Biblical? Maybe we’re asking the wrong question.

For nearly five hundred years, two traditions have read the same Bible and arrived at conclusions that appear to contradict each other.

The Calvinist tradition sees God’s sovereignty as absolute and unconditional. The Arminian tradition sees the invitation of the gospel as genuine and wide. Both positions are defended by brilliant, godly, Scripture-saturated thinkers. Both can show you the verses. And neither has resolved the impasse.

What Paul Saw Hidden in the Messiah proposes that the problem is not in the text, but rather in the lenses we bring to read it.

When we read those words through Paul’s first-century Hebrew lenses, something remarkable happens to a debate that has divided the church for five centuries: It begins to dissolve.

The impasse ends here.
